Authenticators
Limited Expansion of the FETAC External Authenticator Panel
The FETAC external authenticator panel is a resource for all FETAC registered providers. As part of their quality assured assessment and authentication process, all providers are required to select authenticators from the panel to authenticate their results prior to submission to FETAC for certification.
FETAC now wishes to expand the panel in very specific fields of learning relating to apprenticeships. This will ensure that the requirements of registered providers for authenticators with the subject matter expertise to authenticate all awards are met. The FETAC awards directory gives details of the awards in each field of learning.
The criteria for selection for appointment to the authenticator panel are:
• Proven experience in a specific field of learning (see application form)
• Experience of training and assessment
• Capacity to authenticate results to national standards
• Demonstrated understanding of the FETAC requirements for quality assurance of assessment and authentication
• Completion of the required training.
Appointment to the External Authenticators Panel – Process for selection
Completed application forms to be returned to FETAC by Friday 20 May 2012. Please return by email to the hr@fetac.ie.
Each application received will be acknowledged by email. FETAC will screen each application against criteria and select suitably qualified applicants for interview. Interviews will be held between Monday 28 May and Saturday 16 June. We will give applicants one weeks’ notice of their interview date.
Following the interview and confirmation of educational qualifications, successful applicants will be required to attend a mandatory training session. Dates and locations to be confirmed.
On completion of the required training successful applicants will be appointed to the panel until December 2013.

Guidelines for External Authenticators
To assist and facilitate providers in the implementation of the external authentication requirements, FETAC has established a panel of quality assured external authenticators.
Guidelines for External Authenticators have been developed to provide authenticators with a common framework and structure for carrying out their role, to ensure the process of external authentication is undertaken in a systematic coherent professional and transparent manner.
The guidelines outline the key elements of the role and are intended to facilitate the Authenticator in carrying out the external authentication process. Download Guidelines for External Authenticators.
Centres may select their own Authenticators from outside of this list, if they prefer, see Assessment Guidelines (MS Word format). Centres which do so must have a clearly defined selection process and a process for briefing authenticators.
The full details of the External Authenticators Panel is available to centres on the web candidate entry system website.
External Authenticators have indicated the sub-fields of learning they have expertise in. Where more than one sub-field is indicated, the order does not indicate priority. Details of fields and sub-fields of learning and the related domains are given at the end of the External Authenticator list.
A list of frequently asked questions can also be downloaded here (MS Word format). You may find them helpful.
